Fowler boosts attacking options

Royal Wootton Bassett Town have bolstered their attacking firepower with the signing of forward Josh Fowler from Purton.

Blessed with a great turn of pace and eye for goal, Fowler made his name at Shrivenham, while he has also previously featured for Swindon Supermarine, New College and Highworth Town.

He has played sparingly for Purton in the current campaign, scoring once in two appearances.

However, Bassett boss Paul Braithwaite will be hoping that Fowler can re-establish the strong partnership he formed with Steve Robertson while at Shrivenham in the 2013-14 season. That season, the pair combined for more than 50 goals, with Fowler contributing 35 and averaging a goal a game.

The striker initially burst onto the scene with Shrivy in 2012-13, his goalscoring exploits earning a move to Southern League Swindon Supermarine. He was largely on the fringes of Dave Webb's team, moving back to to Shrivenham on loan and then briefly to New College.

After his 35 goal haul for Shrivy in 2013-14, Fowler split last season between the Barrington Park outfit and Highworth, netting six times in the league, including against Bassett in an early season 2-1 defeat.
