Wiltshire FA Under 21 and Veterans Flexi Leagues

Monday 9th November 2015

Royal Wootton Bassett Town have entered Under 21 and Veterans sides into the newly formed 'Flexi Leagues', which have been established by the Wiltshire FA.

Aimed at providing competitive games for players aged between 16 and 21 and, in the case of the Veterans' League, over 35 in a flexible format, games will take place on the 3G pitch at the New Gerard Buxton Sports Ground on Tuesday evenings throughout the winter.

Veterans

The Veterans started their campaign on 3rd November, defeating KMLC 2-1 thanks to goals from Simon Jones and Rab McLeod.

They then made it two wins out of two, defeating Trowbridge Tigers 1-0 in a tight encounter thanks to Steve Fisher's header midway through the second period.

In their third match the Veterans found it hard going against early league leaders Swindon Centurions, who won 4-1.

Against Hathaways in their fourth contest the Veterans fell to a disappointing 5-1 loss.

The Veterans finished their season on a winning note, triumphing 2-0 against CJ Marlborough. While finishing fourth out of six teams, they did finish level on points with Marlborough and second place Hathaways in what was a tight division.

Under 21s

The Under 21s, under the stewardship of Paul Gerrish and Rab McLeod, began with a 2-1 triumph against Highworth Town Juniors as Jemil Ates and Dale Richards found the back of the net.

In their second game against New College, an enjoyable contest finished 1-1 as Gabe Diba equalised late on for Bassett.

A late Richards goal then extended their unbeaten start to three games. Another entertaining game against Croft, who had recorded wins in both of their previous games, was decided with just five minutes remaining in Bassett's favour.

The excitement continued in Bassett's fourth game, a rematch with Highworth. Despite playing the game with only nine players, Bassett were able to claim a point thanks to Scott Walduck's hat trick and a strike from Richards.

Their penultimate fixture against New College was a disappointing one, however, with the student side winning 7-1.

That denied a title decider against Croft Juniors in their final fixture, which takes place on 23rd February.
