Guppy is 2014-15 Fantasy King

Monday 25th May 2015

Congratulations to Andy Guppy, who edged reigning champion Michael Case in a thrilling, nail-biting race to claim the WBTFC 2014-15 Fantasy Football League crown.

Case had led for much of the run in, but was usurped by Guppy in the penultimate week of the season. However, he led by just a single point meaning all was to play for on the final day of the season.

In the end, Guppy's margin of victory was a mere seven points as he compiled a score of 2,149 to Case's 2,142.

Goals on the final day for Guppy's strike force of Jamie Vardy, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane proved decisive.

Last season's champion, meanwhile, was left bemoaning Liverpool shipping six at Stoke City, which left Martin Skrtel on -2 points. Similarly, the failure of the three Arsenal players chosen in his final squad to join in their team's goalfest against West Bromwich Albion meant it was ultimately not to be.

Guppy's triumph means a third winner in the past three editions of the competition. Sam Lawro – champion in 2011-12 and 2012-13 – finished third, with Dave Topping and James Skinner rounding off the top five.

A huge thanks to all 47 people who took part this year. It was great to see so many entering a team. Here's hoping we can break the 50 mark next season – as ever, it will be free to join!
